There is no better school than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve my performance next time. Never again will I contribute to my downfall by refusing to face the truth and learn from my past mistakes. Because I know: gems cannot shine without polish, and I can not perfect myself without hardship.
Now I know that there are no times in life when opportunity, the chance to be and do gathers so richly about my soul when it has to suffer cruel adversity. Then everything depends on whether I raise my head or lower it in seeking help. Whenever I am struck down, in the future, by any terrible defeat, I will inquire of myself, after the first pain has passed, how I can turn that adversity into good. What a great opportunity that moment may present……to take the bitter root I am holding and transform it into fragrant garden of flowers.
Always will I seek the seed of triumph in every adversity.

During the Period of Chunqiu, the Emperor of the Yue,Gou Jian, was defeated by the Wu and trapped in prison. Adversity stimulated him to revenge instead of discouraged him. Gou Jian hanged a gall and tasted it before sleep every day so as to keep the humiliation and revenge always in mind. Owing to his undefeated qualities and persistent struggle, he defeated the Wu and drew himself from adversity to prosperity in the end.
David Beckham, the captain of the English Soccer Team,was famous for his fascinating technique as well as his handsome appearance. He led England to defeat Argentina as a national revenge in the latest Korea Japan World Cup and he was regarded to be one of the five greatest football players in the world by Brazilian football star Robert Carlos.
However, ten years ago, he was only an ordinary young player and was put in the second team of Man Utd. Once he was even lent to another team in English A by Ferguson and it seemed that he would be abandoned as burden of his club someday. Beckham was not defeated by all the difficulties and he was sensible enough to make full use of adversity as an agent to push himself forward. He studied the combat, increased his stamina and strength, improved the technique and dribbling and trained the skill of passing and free kicking. As a result of his persistent and painstaking training, beginning with the famous wonderful goal from the centre circle in 1996, he brought himself a hot prospect.
The important role that adversity plays in one＇s success can also be demonstrated by another example of a Chinese student An Jinpeng. An Jinpeng was born in a poverty stricken family,and his father was seriously ill, so his mother had to do all the farm work. Though poor, his parents were sensible enough to keep him in school and they had to borrow money from relatives and friends. In school, though helped by his classmates and teachers, An Jinpeng was too poor to live normally compared to most students. Instead of delicious meals, he had his rice with salt every day; whenever there were any trips organized by his class, he had to stay in his dormitory. In winter, having little money to buy new clothes to keep himself warm, he had to stay in bed to study. He did not give up and persist in studying hard in order to actualize his goal; win the gold medal in the coming international maths contest. But his persistence did not bring him success at once. Before long, his father died and the condition of his family became worse.

For him, music is not only organizing variety subjects and melodies, but also a kind of language to express his deepest thoughts. Every piece of his music scores resounds with the sentiments of his life. He is still writing, to show his unmatched talent; he is still playing, to scorn all the tragedy he has encountered; he is still composing, to prove that he is the winner for life and cannot be thrown down. All the symposiums of his prove it. All his admirers prove it.
Actually life is just like a spring, the heavier you push it,the higher it will jump. Frustration always lies along the way leading to success. I don＇t want to lose my way, so I tell myself to be (like) an oyster all the time. To live healthily and comfortably, evading any difficulties, or to live struggling, suffering in the exertion to realize your dreams,
which one would you choose? The second one is my choice, because finally I will get the most beautiful pearl in the world, someday, somewhere.
Life is so complex, for it is always a mixture of sadness and happiness. You can never separate them. When you are searching for all the beautiful things, you must also face up to the pain and the trauma and the difficulties which sometimes may knock you down and make you loose your faith and hope. But that is life the pain and the beauty, the good and the bad. When there is adversity, being strong becomes a must for us to overcome it.
