Today I am very glad to have the chance to make a speech on East and West Pagodas.
The East and West Pagodas flanking Kaiyuan Temple are the best preserved stone pagodas in China. They stand as a symbol of the ancient Quanzhou city. At first, the pagodas were built of wood and stone, then brick, and later stone. They have withstood 1000 years of earthquakes and tourists.
The East pagoda is named Zhengguo, which means "
"It was built of wood in 670 A.D. and was later rebuilt as a 48.24m Stone pagoda. The west pagoda is called Renshou, which means "merit and longevity". It was built in 916. From bottom to top，the both pagodas are covered with lots of lifelike carvings. The West Pagodas has two highly unusual carvings.
